About MET
With the development of globalization, the demand for international assistance, medical tourism, medical technology and industrial export and exchange among countries is on the rise. The level and quality of medical care in Taiwan have always been a pride for Taiwanese, and the level of medical service technology is among the leading positions in Asia. Taiwan’s medical care not only has huge potential output value but also has great international competitiveness. As early as 60 years ago, based on the humanitarian aid concept of “medical treatment without national boundaries, service without borders,” Taiwan promoted diplomatic medical aid based on friendship. With the change of the international situation, Taiwan’s medical diplomacy strategy has changed from simple medical assistance to diversified medical industry chain cooperation. This approach not only to assists in the local development of medical care, but also combines Taiwan’s medical-related industries to drive technical and market exchanges between both sides. In the past 20 years, through sub-projects such as “Overseas Medical Talent Training,” “International Medical Treatment,” “Medical Industry Export,” and “Overseas Medical and Health Layout,” the footprint of Taiwan’s medical industry has spread to every corner of the world. The overall international development of the medical and health industry has become Taiwan’s goal to strengthen diplomatic status and upgrade industrial value.
Especially since 2016, the Taiwan government has actively promoted the “New Southbound Policy” and the “Five Plus Two Industry Innovation Plan,” both of which are conducive to the upgrading and external development of the medical industry. In addition, the Ministry of Health and Welfare has invested in the “International Health Industry Layout” and the “Medium and Long-Term Plan for New Southbound Medical and Health Cooperation and Industrial Chain Development,” and the core concept of “High Quality, Medium Price,” established an overall marketing channel in the international target market. This is to further promote medical service brands with Taiwanese characteristics and improve inbound international medical services, advance into the medical and health industry market of “New Southbound” nations, establish the characteristic services and development advantages of Taiwan’s medical industry, formulate the development opportunities and successful model strategies of Taiwan’s industry, seek opportunities to enter the New Southbound market, and enhance outbound Taiwan medical and health strength output.
In order to promote the internationalization and industrialization of Taiwan’s medical and health industry, the industry, government and academic circles have jointly organized “Medical Excellence TAIWAN (MET), a consortium as legal person.” In the future, under the guidance of the government department, MET will assist in gathering medical institutions and the health care industry, to build a resource network platform and bring an integration effect.
